My name is Morgan Pencek and I am the author of Not Your Typical Hippie. I sit somewhere between a hippie and a crunchy hipster so I’m not quite sure where exactly I fit. Either way, I love what I do.

In 2015 I married the love of my life. Aidan is more so along for the ride but supports everything I do. In 2016 I graduated from Hocking College with an Associates Degree in Natural Resources Law Enforcement. Right now, I’m working on my Bachelors in Horticulture.

All throughout my childhood, I had a love for the natural world. It wasn’t until my second semester of college that I discovered that I had a passion for plants, and specifically, medicinal plants. My first homemade medicinal product was a dandelion salve made from dandelion flower heads. Today, it is still one of my favorite things to make but that one simple salve blossomed into a lifestyle change.

When I started down this greener lifestyle and wanted to become more familiar with herbalism, I ran into a problem. I didn’t know what people were talking about and I didn’t know where I could find out more about these things. That’s why I started Not Your Typical Hippie. I want to make that beginners guide to herbalism and green living that I so desperately needed when I started.
If you are anything like I was when I started, I bet you might be a bit confused and overwhelmed. For any words you might be unfamiliar with you can check out my Glossary and take a look my Where to Start page for an introduction to herbalism.

Welcome to the world of green living and herbalism!

Meet the Family!

Aidan and I have been together since 2011 and got married in 2015. Doctor Who (and some help from my brother) brought us together. We have lived all over Ohio and have traveled to Canada, England, and Wales. I have Welsh heritage and he has Polish/German heritage. We both love to travel, eat sushi, watch action movies, read, and play video games.

We have two ferrets, Appa and Sakura. We adopted them in January of 2017. They are wild things but so adorable. And they don’t stink! Well, as long as we keep them and their cage clean. They really are neat pets with their own unique personalities.

Dakota is our four year old Texas Heeler. He’s a rescue dog that was going to be put down for aggressive behavior. He is the sweetest thing. He loves to run and run…and run. We adopted him in July 2017 and has been the perfect addition to our family.

I post a lot of pictures of these three on my Instagram if you want to see their cute faces every once in awhile.
