Welcome! I’m Morgan and I guess that would make me the hippie of this blog. My goal is to document my journey and help educate people as I learn the process of becoming healthier, more self-sustainable and try to save the environment all at the same time. I want to make this blog what I would have wanted when I started this journey. I hope this is everything you need to start your own journey! And hey, if I can do it, then you surely can too.

It Began with a Dandelion

My interest in apothecary and living a more natural life started my freshman year of college. I was taking dendrology (the study of trees) when my professor would occasionally mention what the trees or plants were used for other than for lumber and what was edible. This got me thinking about what else might be out there that is edible and maybe even be used for medicine. So, I turned to Pinterest and read about dandelions and dandelion salves. As soon as the dandelions began to grow on campus in the spring I managed to convince my friend to go out and pick dandelions before maintenance mowed the lawn. From there, I learned to make my very first salve and my interest continued to blossom.

Why I Choose to Go “All Natural”

I knew from a young age that I loved and cared for the environment and once I left home I realized I could pursue my interests without anything holding me back (okay, maybe finances did but nothing can stop a dream). After learning about the many uses for dandelions I continued researching ways to go “chemical free.” I was honestly tired of trying every over the counter face wash and even some prescriptions to help with my acne and I didn’t really like how my skin felt afterward. I then came across people talking about washing their faces with raw honey so I thought “why not?” and gave it a try. Not too long after I saw vast improvements and loved how my skin felt. Knowing that just honey alone could make me feel great I figured there had to be more alternatives to everyday chemical products that could make me feel even better. Why should I expose myself to nasty chemicals when there are healthier options? That is why today I have decided to ditch the toxic chemicals and lead a more wholesome and healthier life.

A Little About Me…

My name is Morgan and I am a graduate of Hocking College. I graduated with an Associates Degree in Natural Resources Law Enforcement. Now that I am out of school I am focusing on teaching myself all there is to know about herbalism and living healthy. I am 20 years old and I currently live in Ohio with my husband. We both care about the environment (though he’s more along for the ride) and enjoy learning together how to live a healthier and eco-friendly life. Our goal is to one day settle down somewhere in Ohio and start a homestead and be as self-sufficient as possible.

Why am I Not Typical?

Well, first off I started my transition to a healthier and sustainable life when I was 19 and was not brought up this way. I’ve decided to make this transition now instead of later in life and I’m willing to give up a lot to make these changes. I also have a lot of allergies that really limits my diet. I’m not a vegan nor a vegetarian and I don’t really care for meat. I am deathly allergic to peanuts but I am mildly-low allergic to egg whites, soy, and milk. I also have not jumped onto the hemp bandwagon. I understand how helpful it is in beauty products and even for medical uses, but I can’t. I’m allergic to that too. My skin breaks out at the contact with hemp oils. Last but not least, I have very controversial views on some controversial issues in the natural world.

I do hope you stick around!
