Even though the sign said no animals we did see people there with their nonservice dogs.
There was parking available down along the river front. Some of it was meter parking which was free on the Sunday we went. There’s a lot of parking throughout Newport within walking distance of the festival. Most if it is pay to park.
Just about every stand there had some sort of food with bacon in or on it. It was all pretty much fair style food with fair food prices.
My husband and I went with our friends to the festival and we all got different things to try and share. Our friends got three deep fried Oreos with bacon for $5. They were like regular deep fried Oreos with a hint of bacon. However, the bacon wasn’t very strong and some pieces had little bacon or a lot.
Bacon wrapped pretzel for $5. Oh yes. This was probably my favorite thing. Crispy bacon on a soft pretzel. The only thing that would have made it better is if it was stuffed with cheese or came with a side of beer cheese.
My husband got some bacon wrapped meatballs. Three for $5. He said they were pretty good.
All bourbon is whiskey, but not all whiskey is bourbon. Bourbon is an American whiskey that has special brewing requirements that make it a bourbon. First, it had to be made in the U.S. It must contain 51% corn and be aged in new oak charred barrels. It cannot be less than 80 proof and cannot contain any added flavoring, coloring, or other additives.
There were specific stand there that were serving the whiskey and only whiskey. There was one tent that was doing tasting throughout the weekend and other booths that were making cocktails and other drinks with bourbon in it. We did a tasting of three different whiskeys for $15. The boys enjoyed it a lot more. I did a shot of the one neither of them wanted to finish. Shots and cocktails are the only way I’ll drink bourbon. The one I had was not good.
Bathrooms: They had some port-o-potties available.
Music: At the very end of the festival is a music stage where a live band was playing. You could hear it throughout most of the festival area.
Activities for Children: This event is kid friendly despite all the alcohol. There was a section that had a bunch of inflatables for kids to play on. I do believe you had to purchase a ticket or a wrist band. I’m not entirely sure.
The festival itself was not very large. Pictured below is just about the entire thing. Just food, drinks, music, and inflatables.
If you have the money to blow on fair food and some standard bourbon then I think it would be an enjoyable time. We did enjoy the food but we were there for only an hour and then got bored. We ended up going to a pub and getting some real food and some drinks.
In the end, it was a beautiful day and there’s plenty to do in the Newport areas if you get bored at the festival.
